What This Ensemble Means is a guided improvisatory framework with flexible instrumentation geared towards less experienced improvisers, but with enough depth and space to engage any ensemble. The piece is based around the idea of reflecting on the essence of the ensemble and the impact of performing with the ensemble has had on the performer. The piece has three sections, each of which can be of variable length, but it is suggested that all three be of equal or roughly equal length. Lengths
of around 1 minute are recommended for remote/recorded versions, but ensembles may wish to extend this time for live performances.
